Literacy Volunteers

Please can you help us spread the word that we are looking for more volunteers?

You may already be aware of our Nottinghamshire based charity, Literacy Volunteers, supported by Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council. We have been vetting, training, placing and supporting Volunteers to promote the love of reading in schools for 28 years since 1996. In addition to supporting children's academic progress, our volunteers who work 1:1 with 4 or 5 pupils every week in term time, also have a positive impact on pupils' social skills and emotional wellbeing.

What you may not know is that Literacy Volunteers has worked very hard to re-establish itself after the school closures during the Covid pandemic and now finds itself in a position where we are able to expand. Following a successful application for UK Government funding through Bassetlaw Community Voluntary Service we are increasing the presence of Literacy Volunteers within Bassetlaw schools.

We now urgently need to recruit at least 8 volunteers for schools in Bassetlaw. This is where you can help us spread the word by sharing the attached copy of our Volunteers advert on any physical, digital or social media content that you distribute within your parish or the wider Bassetlaw area.

Any help you can give us with this would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Karen Plant
